Cows being let out of their barns after the long Swedish winter inside

It’s that time of year in Sweden – cows being let out of the enormous barns where they have spent the long dark cold winter. Look how happy they are. And how many people come to watch them being let out! In Swedish is is called ‘kosläpp’ and many farms film them each year and put them on YouTube. It usually happens around 1st May.

I have heard many people say it is cruel to keep them inside. But in some parts of Sweden in the winter, there is really no choice due to the climate. Although all animals are outside as much as they can be in winter when it is not too cold.
