I left my Louis Vuitton epi leather agenda in for popper repair on August 5th. I was told it could take up to 20 weeks, but it arrived at the Louis Vuitton store yesterday. I was hesitant about spending $60 to have it repaired because it is 18 years old and I bought it second-hand for double that. Ultimately though, I could not use it as it was, and no cobbler I spoke to was able repair it without taking the seams apart or punching a hole in it.
I am really happy I did indeed sent it to Louis Vuitton for repair. It was sent to France, repaired with a new LV popper and the correct thread (a discontinued colour from 2008). You cannot see where they restitched it, and it was returned with a new dustbag. For a planner that is 18 years old and has had plenty of use, the leather is still in pretty good condition. The problem with the popper was that the bottom little ‘bar’ had dropped into the bottom of the popper so it did not close securely. The binder kept coming open in my bag and the pages were being damaged by the contents of my handbag.
I am using and loving my Van Der Spek colorblock planner at the moment, but I will take the LV planner to South Africa with me in December because it is more compact and the leather can take a bashing.
Is it the planner you bought at the end of January 2026? It is a really nice colour indeed. I almost bought the same one but in GM last October but my SA at LV convinced me to take the red one and I don’t regret it. As for my pocket planner I am still in my Mulberry Postman’s Lock in baby blue that I bought in 2022. I prefer the size of the rings to the LV.
How do you know that planner is 18 years old? It seems in rather good condition to be that age. I guess the previous owner didn’t use it much.
Taking the seam apart and re-sewing invisibly (i.e. no additional machine sewn holes) means either hand sewing, or great skill with a machine to hit the existing holes. Add in shipping, the dust bag, packaging, etc, and $60 seems rather reasonable.
The attention to detail is impressive, too; the popper orientation is perfect.
LV packaging has a resale value; you might even get your $60 back…
An ‘LV’ organiser sold recently for a low price; it had a tear in one pocket. I assumed it was a fake, as it wasn’t listed as LV, but just had a logo on the front and the inserts, and a serial #. Now I wonder if it was genuine, sold by a naive seller…
It was well worth it. And the service was impeccable. So friendly and efficient. I would probably have paid $30 at a local tailor even though the stitching would not match and it would have been a generic popper.
