Tutankhamen

I saw this in a charity shop a while ago and I was struck by the fact that this face is globally recognisable. Maybe not by everyone everywhere, but most people know who he is.

A young, sickly king who died at 19 after a short and unremarkable reign is world-famous 3 300 years after he died. That is almost unimaginable, given that most of us know nothing about our great-grandparents. Given, he was famous because of the coverage of the discovery of his tomb and the riches within, but that is still amazing.

I went to the Tutankhamen exhibition when it came to Stockholm, and have also seen it in the UK. I also went to see the Terracotta Army when they came on tour, but King Tut still fascinates me the most.
