Funny honey

I had a good chuckle at the image above. I have always had a soft spot for honey in bear-shaped containers. But then I did love Winnie the Pooh as a child. Beekeper Ralph Gamber hit upon the idea of packaging his honey in cute, squeezable, plastic, bear-shaped containers in 1957 [source], but he made the mistake of not patenting his idea.

The bottle above made me think of a shampoo and conditioner I used to love – Honey Do – by Beautiful Life. I could not find it now except an out of stock advert on Amazon. The marketing and packaging was probably a gimmick (though it did come before the social media age) but my hair really liked the products.

I also used to love Nuxe’s honey face wash, now discontinued. I have been dying to try Gisou honey hair products. I use Burt’s Bees lip balm and hand cream. And of course I love Simply Bee products from South Africa.

I love the smell and taste of honey (though not the stickiness). I know it is supposed to do good and be pure, but for me I love the warm, cosy smell and rich texture of the products I have tried.

  1. Honey is the most natural sweetener known because, unlike sugar, it doesn’t have to be processed. It never goes off (hence the lack of a best before date) and we are in danger of losing it (and life itself) if we continue to eradicate the bees. A wiser man than me once said that human life will only outlive bees by 5 years and we seem hell bent on destroying not only the planet but also the bees.
