Stockholm is too far south to have great Northern Lights. Sometimes we have faint auroras borialis but there are too many city lights and you have to be in certain places to see it. The Northen lights normally flash more blue and green with purple streaks but this red is absolutely unbelievable

Karkmo, Korsholm (Mustasaari), Finland 5.11.2023. What an evening! At around 7pm local time the sky was quite literally on fire. These pictures don’t give justice to seeing these incredibly bright red auroras in person. They where the brightest I’ve ever seen. The reds where so bright they lit up the landscape. This all happened during a strong G3 -class geomagnetic storm, caused by a CME impact. The substorm that occurred early in the evening lasted about 15 minutes. Later in the evening the clouds came in. A very lucky catch for me because most of the Nordics where covered in clouds during this record-setting display of auroras, which where sighted all the way down in Greece and Turkey.
The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Breathtaking, and a teeny, tiny glimpse of what lies ahead…
