    give it up for … (in the context of ‘please show your appreciation’ for a performance). What, exactly, am I supposed to be giving up and why?

    A colleague from years back had an interesting take on “It’s not rocket science”… bearing in mind he worked for Lockheed Martin and was a senior software engineer – his usual rejoinder was “Even rocket science isn’t rocket science any more!”. 🙂
