I have had this book for a while but am planning to rewatch the series and will work through the book at the same time. The series has not aged well in some respects (after all, it is almost 30 years old), but for the outfits, it is still well worth a watch.
I really liked Sex and the City when it came out – mainly for the fashion items, but also for the friendship and the clearly defined style of each character. I liked the fact that they dated like men, were happily single and enjoying life. I was always a bit disappointed that the series finale ended up with them all in relationships. For me, a woman can be just as happy being single and I wished they had shown that.
In 1998, when the series first aired, I had just moved to Sweden from a small town in Africa. I loved seeing how the characters furnished their (to me) very small city apartments, and wore brands I could now go and see in the shops for the very first time. I scrutinised every accessory on the show and how they were layered and combined.
I enjoyed the first SATC movie, but the second movie was awful and the And Just Like That series (now cancelled after three seasons) has been very disappointing.
If you have watched And Just Like That, I would be interested in your thoughts. I have watched it but did not recognise any of the characters. In my own experience growing older, who you fundamentally are does not change and neither does your basic style. I, and everyone I know my age, have grown more of a backbone, take no nonsense, and don’t care what people think. I was so happy being single and I was single for a long time after my divorce. These characters have seemed to develop in the opposite direction, and conspicuous consumption has become the main character. I have enjoyed watching though, even to see my old favourites.

I have watched it but I haven’t gotten to season 3 of And Just Like That. I loved the original series, found the movies meh and stared in disbelief at AJLT… I could not believe that these strong and fierce women would bow like that to wokeness and that was super disappointing. If the series had taken place in California, I would have understood it a bit, but coming from no-nonsense NYC, I don’t know but it feels just so weird. I did feel very bad for poor Steve being dumped by Miranda like that… I think that AJLT was super disappointing and without Samantha, it doesn’t make much sense.
Not to mention too many new characters and plot-lines that went nowhere, bratty kids, complete changes of personality and awful fashions!
I never watched Sex and The City because (to me) it was just like Friends without the male cast, but I would never downplay it just because I have not seen it.
