These are new authors to me but the blurb on the back sounded good so I bought them ($1 each). Generally, only popular books are translated into English so the books I find are normally good. I have been battling to get into these though. I am not sure whether they are not my kind of books or whether I have end-of-term fatigue. I will keep trying and if they don’t ‘take’ I will donate them again.

Val McDermid’s books usually translate to the small screen quite well but I have never read any of her books so maybe she doesn’t write as well as she thinks. Holly Watt I have never heard of before so have nothing to say about her.
I didn’t know there were Dermid television series. I must keep my eye out. It’s still slow going on this one but I am getting into the story now so hopefully that will speed things up.
it’s the Wire In The Blood series mainly. She began life as a journalist and is quite a prolific contributor to Radio4 – I’m very fond of her, and this I have read most of her stuff. I hope you’ll enjoy her too. here’s a link to her on Desert Island Discs (not sure if you’ll be able to play it overseas) https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b036tqpl x
Thank you! I have just finished the book now and it really improved after a slow start. It was number 5 in the Tony Hill series, so I may just start at the beginning. They did keep referring to previous books, so I am motivated now!
