I have never been able to watch Bosch on Amazon Prime because I read the books first and I found the mashed-up storylines from the books so confusing. The same happened with Slow Horses by Mick Herron. I had the book world so fixed in my head that I could not enter the series world.
I did watch Ballard recently though, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have read all the Ballad/Bosch and Ballard books, but this series was different.
The only blip for me was that two characters in the series looked very similar, and I was never sure which one was in the scene. I have written before about celebrity doppelgangers and that I have a problem differentiating between Matthew Bomer and Henry Cavill. But I have never seen two doppelgänger actors in one movie before. I teach about 25 groups each term and I can always tell students apart. But in this case I battled.
In this case though it was Noah Bean (playing Ted Rawls)

and Michael Mosley (playing Jake Pearlman)

I battled to tell which was which, particularly as they often dressed similarly and their voice patterns were alike. I wondered if that can ever be an issue when casting a show. That you don’t want people of a similar age to look and sound too alike, even if they are playing siblings.
