  1. I am pretty sure ‘bar – beer & alcohol room’ is a backronym, and that a bar is called a bar because the serving counter was a bar: of wood, of metal, etc. Many bars still have an actual bar along the edge of the serving counter.

    Strictly, ‘beer and alcohol room’ would be ‘baar’… Although if we allow the ampersand, maybe ‘betar’…
