Dubbing, subtitles and voiceovers in Europe

Even before globalisation and the predominantly English-language internet, Swedes had outstanding English. I have always thought this was, in great part, due to the subtitling of English-language films and television shows. They are not dubbed, remaining in English, with Swedish subtitles. Reading the Swedish subtitles actually helped me learn Swedish, because pronunciation in Swedish (unlike English) is pretty much the same as how the word looks.
