Auction house Julien’s is having an auction of props from the And Just Like That… part of the Sex and the City franchise. There is nothing fashion-related belonging to Carrie’s character because the actress playing her, Sarah Jessica Parker, had written into her contracts that she would keep all her costumes. Her personal archive must be epic!
I had a love-hate relationship with And Just Like That…
– I loved seeing the characters again, but hated the storylines. I did not like the conspicuous consumption, the clownification of some of the characters, or storylines that were related to ageing. As someone who identified with the characters in Sex and the City (who are the same age as I am), these characters were unrecognisable in the new series.
I was surprised at the lower starting price of most of the items on auction, given their original value, but I imagine bidding will bring that up. I was also shocked to see that the ultra-wealthy Charlotte’s wedding and engagement rings from in the show were very cheap, tarnished-looking silver and zirconia rings missing at least two stones.
Not all outfits were there, but the actors could probably buy some, were gifted some, and others were probably on loan for the show. I am wondering why they are being sold off rather than going into a costume warehouse belonging to the studio, although maybe those are not a thing anymore. A donation will be made to charity, though the site does not specify if it will be all proceeds.
