I understand that the torch balcony has been closed since 1916. The Statue of Liberty is big, but imagine how big it would have looked to people when New York City was smaller and ships were tiny compared to today’s vessels.
My grandfather arrived in New York in August 1930. I wonder how he felt when he saw the Statue of Liberty? It must have looked huge.
