Family bible from the 1800s

I can remember seeing this huge bible in the Voortrekker (Pioneer) Monument in Pretoria many many years ago.  Families that settled new lands usually had  family bibles, something that was so important to their faith and hope for their future in a new country.

Recently I found this bible in a second-hand shop. It had straps to keep it closed but they were worn out. Seeing such a beautiful book really reminds one of the beauty and work that went into books long ago, and how precious they were.
