Interestingly, Swedish has far fewer words than English yet it has a wonderful way of describing family members so that in just one word you know whether the relationship is maternal or paternal, whether the person is related to you by blood, and what gender they are. I wish English had that. My aunt just does not really explain much at all. Is she related to me? Is she maternal or paternal.
