These days if you see TikTok ‘pranks’ being carried out, or dangerous/annoying ‘challenges’, they are often accompanied by this haircut, aka the broccoli cut.

This style has been popular for a couple of years now and almost every boy in the high school near us has it. My hairdresser had to learn how to do perms in order to be able to produce the curly part of the cut on straight hair. To be fair, it is a very versatile cut and looks good on all types of hair. It’s a pity it has been co-opted by wannabe bad boys.
Looking back, I think each of us has had a haircut we loved but look back at and chuckle.
Remember the 70s mullet, still common in some countries? In Swedish it is called a ‘hockey hairdo’ I wanted to have one because David Bowie had one, and on curly hair it was awful.

And the late 90s/early 2000s frosted tips
Not to mention the ‘I want to speak to the manager’ haircut. I think this is a nice cut on someone with that type of style. What a pity it has become the symbolic plumage of entitled middle-aged women in popular culture

Other ones that spring to mind are
The Lady Di (I memorably went to the hairdresser with a photo like this, wanting a Lady Di cut. He took one look at my ball of frizz and said ‘Modom, I may be a fairy, but this comb is not a wand.’ Jorge had a magnificently spiky tongue. I miss him. )

I give a few classes in a high school here in Germany and EVERYONE (=all the boys) had that broccoli hairstyle… With one of my adult English class, we discussed it and the men in the group definitely had ideas about it… Both of them did NOT have the broccoli hairstyle!… And as far as I was concerned, for very long in my childhood, I had the same hairstyle as the French singer Mireille Matthieu (Google her if you want a giggle). I would have killed to have Farrah Fawcett’s hair!
Mine is a Bruce Willis!
early days or latter years?
