Black Lidl trench coat

I love my beige Filippa K trenchcoat, and have worn it through at least 8 springs and autumns. It is beautifully stitched and lined and I have it cleaned by a professional.

I have been hankering after a black one but did not want to spend too much on it. I generally spend quite a bit on quality winter outerwear (coats and scarves) and less on spring and autumn ones that don’t have to be so warm. Plus you don’t wear them for very long given that winter is endless…

I recently stumbled upon a black trenchcoat at Lidl for $13 and pounced. It is in no way comparable in quality to the Filippa K one but it looks lovely on. It is long, which I really like, and lightweight. For now, lightweight is good because it is not yet cold enough to need a coat with heft. They had several colours (I saw beige, green and black)

These photos are from Lidl’s website (no link because each country’s Lidl has their own site)

You can see it is not top-of-the-range but at that price it is pretty good quality. Black does hide a multitude of sins so if I go cheap, I generally buy black.
