Crochet is having a moment

When I was growing up, my mother had a jacket made of crochet ‘granny squares’ as we used to call it. Said jacket was in screechy shades of bright orange and brown (very 1970s). When I was about 14, I would refuse to go with her to the shops if she was wearing it. I know that just about all teenagers go through stages where their parents seem really embarrassing, but I am still ashamed of it. Sorry Mom!

I am seeing more and more of these squares in spring fashions this year

This crochet-print backpack by Herschel was about as bright as my mother’s jacket.
