I think it is an instruction how to use a chair lift. A chair lift brings you up higher into the air because some skiing paths are too difficult to be reached by anchor lifts for example. So instead of gripping the wooden anchor of an anchor lift and being ‘dragged ‘ up the way to the skiing trail you are supposed to use the chair lift in the picture as shown by not grabbing it as the other ski lifts but sort out your skiing sticks and get your skis positioned into the tracks and wait until the chair lift is right behind you. Then you just have to grab it, fastly take your seat and then you are transported up to the skiing tracks.
Thank you for the explanation, Sonja 😊. I qm well used to this device as l ski a lot and have come across them many times.
What l don’t get is Janet’s “ouch!”. As for me this chair lift is quite common and is nothing painful.

I don’t get it, sorry…
That’s the way to use a ski lift if you do not want to hurt yourself seriously. ;)) !
But I have to admit it looks kind of funny though……
