This was taken in early July. Harley has been out on a leash and harness since he was 12 weeks old. His walks are usually 90 minutes long and he knows all the dogs and cats (and one rabbit that walks/hops on a harness) in the area. On 21st July we had somewhere to be at his normal walk time, so we decided to skip a day. Since that day, he has not wanted to go out. He just decided he did not want to go out anymore. He has started playing more inside and gained 400g.
Cats can be quite difficult when they want to be – perhaps you upset him by not taking him out at the specified time he was used to. Our cat always liked to use a scratching post we placed in the dining room for her. It got quite worn, so we replaced the pole in the middle (it was the same kind of material) and she now completely ignores it! It’s a shame as it helped to keep her claws trim. I think they are generally not keen on things changing (unless they decide it).
I have been wondering about that too.
A former colleague of mine had two cats – brothers Cool Cat and Crazy Cat. On the day they brought a puppy home, Cool Cat moved next door to live with the neighbours. He refused to acknowledge any of his ‘former’ family, including his brother. He lived out his life, pampered and loved, in the house next door.
That sounds typical cat behaviour – once they make up their minds there is no turning back. Our cat originally came to live with us because she didn’t like living with three other cats in the house across the way. She used to visit our garden and then they got an additional ginger kitten as well. So that was it! She made it clear she wanted to stay with us, so in agreement with her owner, we gave in.
