This is an absolutely amazing café in a side street near where we live. It looks very unprepossessing from the outside, with checked tablecloths and plain chairs. They sell only filter coffee and tea. But the atmosphere, owners and cakes are absolutely epic. Lisa Velin ran a café (Lisa’s Café) nearby for decades, and when she closed it, her son Niklas moved down the road and reopened it as ‘Lisa’s boy’.
Lisa or Nikla rise at about 4am every day to bake, and opens at 6am. You walk in, order your sandwich or hot meal and sit down to eat it. You can choose what you want from the cakes, and help yourself to coffee. When you are finished, you find Lisa or her son, and pay. The cakes, biscuits and buns are some of the best I have ever tasted, and eating there feels like having coffee in a friend’s living room.
This is my favourite. It is chewy shortcrust pasty with raspberry jam and coconut. If we visit after 12, Lisa usually gifts us something to take with us if there is some left. Yesterday she gave me some of my favourite to take home!
Even the hand soap is themed!
