South Africa Day 4 – Cape Town, Hermanus and Wilderness

Today we had another delicious breakfast, packed up, and started our long drive (about 6 hours) to Wilderness.

We stopped at Hermanus, where we saw whales. Southern Right Whales come here from Antarctica between June and December to have their calves in warmer waters. Southern Right whales can grow to around 15 meters (49 feet) in length and can weigh over 47 tonnes, with the largest of the species being recorded at 18 meters (59 feet) and 80 tonnes, living almost to 100 years! Calves drink 600 litres of milk per day.

After that we drove via Mossel Bay to George which was quite a stretch. Our home for the next two nights is Ocean View Luxury Guest House in Wilderness. We have a beautiful room and access to the rest of the house. This too was not expensive because it is low season.
