Well, this parcel arrived in Sweden after four days – all the way from the US! Unbelievable. I was so pleased! In fact it probably arrived on Friday as they usually send out parcel slips the day after the parcel arrives.

I really like sealed products because then you know it has not been used, thumbed or battered about before you get it (I’m funny that way).

Book slips easily in and out of the case, which also holds it securely in place when inside.
Lays completely flat - and the glorious thin paper!!!! Hard to believe there are 480 pages in these books as they are thinner than a book with 240 pages.

This cover is made for the Seven Seas but fits other A5 notebooks so I do think it will fit a Hobonichi Cousin. You can choose the exact cover you receive if you so wish. Or if you don’t want to choose, you can let Nanami choose one for you.

These flaps are to eliminate ‘writing bumps’ caused by normal covers.
This is the true colour - toasty and warm

I like ‘range marks’ on my leather. These are caused by bites, scars and movement of the animal which once wore this skin. It shows that the animal roamed free and looked up at the sky

Look at that stitching
It does not lay flat yet - this is not due to the book but due to the cover which has not moulded to the book yet.

  1. Hej,

    1. Yes it has darkened and has patina now. Gfeller make the covers and you can order them directly from their website. https://thisbugslife.com/2016/11/29/gfeller-leather-notebook-covers/
But if they are not dark enough for you, you could maybe try one from Kendal and Hyde? https://thisbugslife.com/2016/11/29/kendal-hyde-leather-notebook-covers/

Or more locally, P.A.P or Tigerklo?

To be honest though, the Gfeller ones from Nanami are the most amazing ones I have. Here is mine after 1 year. I used it for 2 years before changing to the Tigerklo one. https://thisbugslife.com/2015/06/13/nanami-paper-seven-seas-tomoe-river-journal-gfeller-skirting-leather-cover-after-1-years-use/

      1. Hiya, and thanks a lot for taking time out to reply … I needed that input! 🙂 Yesterday, I scoured the Web pretty much all day, without finding what I’m after. Guess I COULD live a year with the Gfeller, in wait for it to acquire the patina. However, clicking on the Kendal & Hyde link, I saw what I wanted right away … so that will probably be it.

      2. If you read the comment below the article on the Kendal and Hyde one, the leather is apparently wonderful. They have a natural option as well which is probably like the Gfeller one.

      3. I’ll go for the darker one, in the picture. Oh my, they look scrumptious! 😀

Finally, I’ve found one to my liking! I was so fed up yesterday … Checked Amazon for a while, but that’s maddening, because many of them only ship within US and I’m in Canada.

      4. I am so glad! Let me know how you like it when it arrives! As you can see the wide inner flap is very like the Nanami Gfeller ones. A big plus!

      5. Yeah, you don’t get that bump! I don’t have any patience waiting for that Nanami place — they’re always out of stock. Besides, it’s hard to judge from the picture there, what the quality is like [the darker one Herz]. That’s so important, methinks, when it comes to leather … what it’s like to the touch!
