I have written about the proliferation of old typewriters in second hand shops recently. I wondered if this was the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon/Yellow Car Effect or if it is just that more people who had these typewriters are passing away, going into homes for the elderly, or downsizing and donating them?
I have seen so many old typewriters and adding machines lately
I guess they would make for good ‘rustic’ decor in certain shops and cafés. Plus they are heavy so no one could easily steal one. Or even want to.

Over the past couple of years more people have made a point of vocally going off grid, plus Tom Hanks is a typewriter collector (I think I’ve got this correct!) and is often on talk shows here in the UK. So I think that traditional typewriters are more in the public consciousness.
