I have loads of notebooks, but when I travel, my needs are pretty specific. I like a notebook that is light but durable, has a flexible cover (so it can shape itself around the contents when it gets thicker), a good number of pages, and has a closure and a pen loop.
Last year I used the Louis Vuitton Epi leather journal a student gifted to me a while back. It was perfect! Before our trip, I detailed all our bookings, flight details and packing/gift lists. I took a glue stick and some folding scissors with me so I could paste everything in as I went. It is now on my shelf as a little scrapbook of our trip. The nicest thing about it is that the pages are thin so the book has lots of pages while remaining light.
This time, I am battling to find something that fits the bill. I did find this travel journal by DK, but it had a stiff cover and preformatted pages for ten trips, which is not really what I want. I am also very into using what I already have in my stash. It did have an elastic closure though.
I then thought of my Naked Cow personal sized traveler’s notebook, which is a nice compact size (the regular TN is not wide enough, and the passport size is too small). But I could not find any inserts in my stash…
So the search continues. All tips welcome!

Just like Anne said, I would recommend you check Falcon Traveler. Monique, the lady who created the company is amazing. I got many TN covers from her and I really think that a TN cover would be the right thing for you. Monique makes completely customized covers: you can have a pen loop (or two!), elastic bands and different types of closure too. As a notebook to put inside, Monique also makes notebooks but if you want something chunky with good paper quality, the Stalogy notebooks are really good: you can get some with grid, plain and maybe even with dot grid. They have the following formats: A5, A6, B5, B6. Galen Leather also makes lovely covers too with pen loops and elastic closure. I also have one cover from them and it’s really lovely.
That is a great idea. I have three books from Monique already (A4, A5, Standard), so I may use the A5 one. It is pretty light too.
Oh I remember this design!!! Back in the day, I was following Monique’s Instagram and FB account religiously and I kept marveling at all the gorgeous TNs that she was making and the history behind them. Yours and another one that has a painting of the ship Endurance are my favourite designs of hers! I noticed you even have a pen loop too on the two bigger ones. There are some with a big metal clip that you can securely attach to your cover but you don’t even need this! I love using TNs for the holidays. I even use a regular sized one for work and it works like a charm for me.
Yes! Cassandra has the Endurance one, which is beautiful.
Hello!
Have you tried Falcon Traveler?
She can probably make something for you.
Best Regards
Anne
Thank you Anne – you have given me a great idea. I have three books by Monique, and the A5 one would be perfect because it is light.
