Sanctuary, a memorial to the victims of the 2017 terror attack in Stockholm

This memorial – for the victims of the 2017 Stockholm attack – was unveiled on 7 April, the anniversary of the attack. At first I was confused and thought it was a bit weird. I walk past it almost every day though, and have grown to love it. It is a duvet inscribed with poetry and it is warm to the touch. It represents the warmth and unity shown after the attack. People can sit on it, and they do.

I was in the basement of this building when the truck hit it. I was never in any danger, but it changed my life.

Here is the memorial for the dog that was killed, created by the people of Stockholm

One of Stockholm’s famous lions

And a police car. In all my years in Sweden, I have never seen people reach out to each other like that. Strangers were hugging in the street and there were a lot of tears.

  1. Very touching… It makes me think of the attack on the Christmas market of Magdeburg this past winter. And so many other attacks these past decade…
