Interesting facts about the harpy eagle, thanks for sharing Janet. I don’t think birds of prey should be kept in captivity, they are graceful creatures and should be enjoyed in the wild. (I have been close to a golden eagle – a distance of around 15 feet – in Scotland when it landed on top of a rabbit in the field next to where I was walking). Nature is best observed from a distance but the eagle landed on the rabbit, killed it before taking off again and never seemed bothered that I was close by.
I totally agree Dave. I hate seeing chained or caged animals unless they are being rehabilitated or tagged/measured for conservation purposes. I am not a fan of zoos either.
I like wildlife parks (because the animals aren’t caged) but think zoos are no longer valid because animals shouldn’t be kept in cages apart from conservation purposes and then for only as long as is necessary. I also hate seeing people keeping wild animals as pets (like Michael Jackson did with Bubbles) they are easily frustrated and will cause damage to people and property if they are not maintained healthily and given plenty to do.
