Omega x Swatch Seamaster Moonswatch

I have never owned a Swatch, or even really wanted to. I tend to want to go really cheap or very good quality for my watches. I have had cheap plastic Triwa watches, bought for next to nothing. Right now I am using my beloved Seiko watch in silver and gold tones. It is weighty and classy and I bought it very cheaply during a sale.

I have spent time perusing Swatch display cabinets and second-hand collections, such as the gorgeous Vivienne Westwood one that went up for auction not so long ago. I like looking at the hundreds of different versions, such as these

But the Swatch bug never really bit me. That’s good because I have enough collections as it is. I have the collecting ‘gene’ from my family and it’s hard to stop with a collection once I start.

One thing that did catch my eye though, was the Omega x Swatch collaboration. Only sold in-store, there is the normal shopping frenzy from collectors for these watches, although this is not a limited edition. Despite being permanent, only limited numbers are produced at a time, driving demand.

Omega, being such an investment brand, partnering with Swatch on what is not a top quality watch was surprising. I suppose it is one way to foray into a new market.

I would not buy one because I would not want to fight for one, and I am not a fan of the straps (though you could change to an aftermarket strap). As much as I would love an Omega watch, one of these is not on my list. What do you think?

Which one would you choose if you were to be gifted one? The rarest one is Neptunus but I would probably choose the Moon because it is dark in colour.

Do any of my readers have one of these? What are your thoughts on it?

  1. I have a passion for watches.
It started on my 12th birthday when I was offered a Cartier Tank watch and it has never stopped since then. My grand father was a watch maker in Besançon and he taught me a lot about the different mechanism and systems.
I own several nice watches, Rolex, Cartier, Baume & Mercier, Omega, Vacheron Constantin to name a few. On an everyday basis I wear a Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso or a Cartier Tank or Blue Balloon as they are sturdy and not too heavy on my small wrist.
I do have 4 or 5 Swatch watches as well as a lovely Ice but I only wear them on the beach.
I also love clocks, especially grand father Comtoise clocks or desk clocks.

  2. I’m married to my Apple Watch, especially after it alerted me to my heart condition!!

I also wear a Seiko solar powered analogue watch. I like wearing that when travelling as it stays fixed on ‘home’ (Paris) time and it can be less confusing when changing time zones!

My other watch is an old (now) Casio solar/radio controlled watch, it gets the time from DCF77 radio time standard or MSF in UK, so it is always accurate to within a second.

  3. I love Swatch watches but I haven’t had one since I was a teenager. I had a really nice Swiss watch for at least a couple of decades from the brand Swiss And Bresson. It was a big men’s watch. I still have it but because I had to change the battery every few months, I decided to stop using it. I took the watch to a repairman and he told me that he could change the “engine” of the watch. I’m a bit on the fence because this watch is so heavy. A couple of weeks ago, I came across an advertising campaign by Swatch showing their new Year of the Dragon line and I really crushed on those… They are very garish, but I love them! I never got into smart watches though. To answer your question, I would probably go for the Sun watch!… So beautiful and yellow!

    1. I had a big men’s watch that I loved but I developed carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrist and had to switch to a smaller one. I love the one I have now.

      1. Big men’s watches are so heavy but at least you can look at the time without removing (or putting on) your glasses!… At the moment, I have a very cheap watch with the portrait of Nikola Tesla on it. It works! But I may still try and get a dragon Swatch one… Or maybe something completely different!…
