The curse of the introvert

I am very much an introvert. I recharge my batteries through solitude and solitary pursuits (reading, writing, watching films). I have a job where I have be ‘on’ all the time. I have to explain things in an interesting way, I have to actively listen and respond, and I have to perform (so to speak) throughout my working day.

I am lucky in that I have a husband who is very much the same. While we spend our spare time together, we often do it in silence, with no pressure to interact.

Over the past month, we have had visitors for a total of 14 days in addition to working. We had four dinner parties. I have also had several evening meetings, coffees and lunches with friends, and very long phone calls with family and friends.

To say that I ended October exhausted was no exaggeration. I felt both physically and mentally drained. Everything was aching. I have loved it so much but now it is time to recharge.

I wonder how people end up being extroverted vs. introverted?
