What’s in my bag – Eva

Eva is one of my regular readers and commenters so I was delighted to see what is in her bag. We have wonderful email conversations about all kinds of things. I am always grateful to make friends through my blog.

Eva writes:

I use a fanny pack (also called a bum bag) for my essentials.

[Note: This is an interesting cultural difference because fanny means different things in the UK (front bottom), US (butt) and Sweden (it’s a first name)]

From top to bottom:

  • Black and white: original strap
  • White with flowers: summer strap
  • Colourful flowers: for an extra touch of colour (I got that one off ebay from a Chinese seller)
  • Black with flowers: colder and rainier days strap

The card holder is used to keep my very old driver’s license (French) and my passport (Spanish) as well as the odd store card (although I tend to get rid of most of them because they don’t seem to bring all that much). My driver’s license and my passport are too big for my wallet, which is why I have this extra holder.

When I teach, I use a backpack to carry my books and folders and I always have my fanny pack in front of me, should I need to get my keys or my wallet at a short moment’s notice. I used to carry my wallet-keys-smartphone combo in a pouch that I stored in a pouch but I didn’t find it as convenient. During the weekend, I can just grab my fanny pack and leave my backpack behind. I always need to have free hands, so this system is perfect for me.

  1. Thank you for sharing this post, I would just like to point out that “Fanny” Rossi is in Status Quo (UK group been around since the 1960’s) and Fanny used to be my favourite group in the early 1970’s alongside David Bowie. You are right in the rest of the descriptions about the name differences in different places.

  2. I am so honoured to have made my mark in your blog! Thank you! (And that piercing scream you heard early this morning was me discovering your blog post and screaming with joy!!!)
