Doc Martin patient names

One of my favourite television shows is Doc Martin. I think I have watched every episode at least twice. Sweden has reruns every evening and I still tend to watch parts of episodes while I am doing other things.

The more I watch, the more I recognise his amusing patient names. Most of them are not immediately obvious, but some of my favourites are:

  • Albert Ross (Albatross)
  • Alice Cooper, Jean Simmons, Daryl Hannah (these ones I twigged immediately)
  • Ben Twilley and Drew Peacock I will let you guess yourselves…
  • Helen Highwater (Hell and High Water)
  • Iona Castle (I Own a Castle)
  • Noah Cant (No I Can’t)
  • Pam Demic (Pandemic)
  • Scott Chegg (Scotch Egg)
  • Teresa Green (Trees are Green)
  • Wendy House

  1. Some like Robin Banks are less obvious. Morwenna says Mr Banks and Doc Martin says go through Robin 🤣

    1. Onna Todd would be On Her Tod, meaning on her own (it’s cockney Rhyming slang). Barry Naeneck I am embarrassed to admit I have forgotten, although I found it hilarious enough to include at the time. Maybe Barry No Neck? I will try and remember!

  2. …wow. Is it telling that 1. I am autistic and 2. I NEVER noticed the names?! I watched the show a lot over the years and NEVER noticed! (I’m terrible, TERRIBLE with names, faces I’ll remember forever, but names/titles of things are just so so bad for me.) I’m so laughing about Ben Twilley! Do the patient names relate to their diagnoses? I’ll have to watch!
