I hate bad design as much as the next person, but this isn’t it

You often see photos of these ramps as examples of bad design, or dangerous wheelchair ramps.

As much as I hate bad design, this isn’t it. These are not for wheelchairs but for baby prams and strollers. Sweden is a country of working mothers and parent-friendly spaces. People travel with prams on the underground and in shopping spaces and this is a way of manoeuvring that does not require elevators. You walk up and down the narrow steps while holding your pram.

  1. I wouldn’t trust these ramps with a pram or a wheelchair. They are far to steep and at an awkward angle to the pavement. I’d like to see photos of people actually using them.
