I have a traditional Claddagh ring that I received from my ex-husband on my 40th birthday. It is a very big, heavy man’s ring in 18 carat yellow gold, and I often wear it on my right ring finger. I have an Irish driver’s licence and teaching qualification, had an Irish father and am an Irish citizen. I married my Irish ex-husband in Dublin, so it was, I guess, on the cards that I would have some kind of Celtic ring, as cheesy and touristy as they may be.
I also have a stacking/interlocking Claddagh ring in sterling silver and 9 carat cold. It clips together very well.
I have been looking for a silver claddagh ring for a long time, but I prefer heavy ones, and the ones I usually find are generally more dainty. Recently though, I did find a nice solid one at a market that is not traditional, but a lovely shape. The photograph below shows it next to my gold one. I am very happy.
The Dublin shop where my original Claddagh was bought is online here, but sizing is a bit difficult online and my original one was a men’s ring custom-sized for me. My daughter has two rings from their Galways store, which are beautiful.
