Fossa

—- aren’t they cute? These fossa cubs/pups were born at Chester zoo in the UK but fossa are endemic to Madagascar.

Fossa grow up to six feet long from nose to tail tip, weigh up to 26lbs and are distantly related to the mongoose. However, they have distinctly feline physical traits (those paws!) and look a bit like small cougars. There has long been controversy over how the fossa should be classified.

  1. These animals are just too cute to be classified as mongooses (mongeese?) or cats when they are distant relatives to both by the looks of them. They are so cute, just like the wild cats I used to see in the Trossachs, but not an animal I would like to come upon suddenly. Big cats are less scary than their small counterparts in certain parts of the world.
