It’s SCAPEgoat, not ESCAPE goat!

Although the way things are going, I will not be surprised if everyone is using escape goat in a decade or two, more’s the pity.

scapegoat is a person or animal which takes on the sins of others, or is unfairly blamed for problems. The concept originally comes from Leviticus, in which a goat is designated to be cast into the desert with the sins of the community. Other ancient societies had similar practices. In psychology and sociology, the practice of selecting someone as a scapegoat has led to the concept of scapegoating.

And from…..errrr, ill-informed….people today

  1. On the radio today I listened to an episode on ‘old fogey speak’ and the sayings that will be popular in the future. In a few families where people came from non-english speaking countries, the original immigrants mixed up a lot of the english , coming out with their own versions that ‘stuck’ as family sayings. One that was mentioned was from a Hungarian family whose Grandmother talked about ‘Escape Goats’. In a lot of ways, that could be quite applicable today as people try to escape the realities of the things our politicians are putting us through!
