I love old dogs

A powerful picture of a man and his dog taken 15 years apart–same man same dog. Owning a pet is a lifetime duty. If this is not what you had in mind you might want to consider not getting a pet.

For me, pets are a member of the family for many many years. They rely on you for everything. If you cannot give them your time then don’t get one. Especially at this time of year I often think of the Christmas campaign ‘A pet is for life, not just for Christmas’.

Lots of people love puppies but I love older animals. There are several photographers who specialize in taking photographs of aging pets. Pete Thorne is the one I know best.

  1. Oh, there’s a little old man near where I live and he’s always out walking his dog, and the dog is so old like you can just imagine that they’ve been together forever. It’s so cute.

  2. Hi Janet
Please give me your email again if you don’t mind. Today is my sweet Oliver’s birthday. He’s a great dane and is 8. I was just comparing the picture of him when he was about 2 to the one now. Such a difference and he’s even more precious to me now!

  3. The dogs are for life and not just for Christmas is probably over 30 years old now…a lot of UK shelters close the doors to the kittens and puppies for adoption around Christmas time for that reason

  4. There’s a Tom T Hall song “aint but three things in this world that’s worth a solitary dime, but Old Dogs, and Children and Watermelon Wine”

  5. Yes, puppies are cute but I like the later rewards of the bonding, training and learning together that forges a lifelong friendship.
