Many Filofax retailers – believe it or not – report dismal sales of Maldens. Which may be the reason the colours are discontinued so quickly and why there only two main colours left – ochre and purple. That is very strange because in the community, this is by far the most popular model.
I like the model myself, and feel it represents the ‘new’ Filofax more than the more traditional models. I wish they were extending the range of colours though, instead of reducing it.
The new navy colour is nice but have only seen it in A5 planner + iPad holder, and zipped compact. It would look so nice in a regular A5!
I’m getting ready to purchase my first Filofax, and I’ve been trying to find a Personal Malden in black. I may have to settle for a Finsbury, but I don’t want to just “settle”. I want my first Filofax to be absolutely perfect. If anyone knows where I can find one, please let me know! It would be so greatly appreciated!
I love my grey personal Malden though it’s not my favorite binder, I am glad I kept it. Sadly I traded my beautiful grey A5 Malden for a purple one and I have such buyers remorse! I realize now what a mistake I made. I have begun using my aqua personal and I love it as well. I did not bond with the ochre or purple personal models (gasp!) or the purple A5. I very much want an A5 grey, an A5 and a pocket aqua so that I have complete sets in the grey and aqua. I’m so disappointed in myself for not getting them immediately when available at retail price. While not currently employed, I can’t afford several hundred dollars for one Malden, nor do I think they are worth it. Well, maybe if I were at the income I was at at my former job I would make the investment in order to have complete sets. 😉 I torture myself going on eBay and the FB groups feeling gutted over not being able to spend as I once did. Haha. Patience is not my strong suit but I’ve certainly have to be now. I have this thing about complete sets and am trying to determine which Filofaxes I’m willing to sell to achieve that, and add a Gillio and VDS to the mix!
I am so happy to be able to get one personal crimson on ebay! As you told us Janet, be patient and be careful when biding, and you will get it…at a correct price. I have bought an aqua A5 that I found on the germany Filofax website, because in France there was no one anymore.
Well done Sophie and congratulations! Yes if you are patient everything comes long in the end, but it is not easy to be patient sometimes. The crimson is a stunning binder and they are so hard to find. Well done on the aqua as well!
I feel better now: the Malden is one of the few models I just don’t get. I don’t find them visually appealing or particularly nice to use. I always feel like a pariah in the community because of this! I know my local retailer had one personal Malden in stock for ages and ages and I still don’t know if anyone bought it.
I would definitely agree that the Maldens are magic!
I have owned two crimson personals, a purple personal, two vintage pink A5s and an ochre A5… I now only have the crimson which is my favourite, & it’s a shame that the aqua is already discontinued as I’ve never seen one in person.
I’d love a navy Personal.
I suspect the problem with the Malden is that Filofax isn’t an international company with global shipping. So unwanted stock sits with distributors and tiny shops with no online presence, but FFUSA and FFUK can’t keep them in stock.
I dislike the Malden’s contrast stitch and pocket configuration, but I’d buy a navy Personal in a heartbeat.
I think part of the problem is that they’re very expensive. A lot of people just don’t have that kind of money to spend on what some will see as a glorified diary.
If you come across an Aqua A5…that’s on my wish list.
I’m really new to this frenzy and the one I have fallen in love with is the Malden. Of course I would love to find one in the Vintage pink color but may have to resort to the purple. But it must be a Malden!!! (Personal)
If you are patient I am sure you will find one. I have found about four of them recently for my blog readers so I will keep my eye out for you!
