Filofax embossing – a lovely idea

wrapping-main-1

I think that Filofaxes are like watches. You used to be given a watch and wear it all your life. Often you received a nice one for your 21st birthday and probably wore it until you received another one when you retired. Nowadays watches (if they are worn at all) are rather throwaway items – changed according to fashion and whim.

Filofaxes are much the same. Before, they were something you bought and used for decades. To many (perhaps most) people they are now a commodity – to be traded, bought and sold, and to be changed according to mood and season.

For those people, the following option may not be a good idea. But for others, it would make such a special gift. For a special person or a special occasion. Graduation, promotion or even a birthday.

Filofax UK offers embossing on three of its models – Domino, Original and Classic. You can choose the font and the color. The service costs only £7.95 though I can’t see if there is a limit to how many letters you may choose. Here is a link to all the embossable ones, and below is a description of the service:

  1. I have a Cordwain Higgler with my name embossed on the front cover, and I think it makes it very special and very personal. I’m not sure how they do it, but it looks great.
One thought though – once you do that, it makes it impossible to sell or give your binders away. I don’t plan on getting rid of any of my filofaxes or other binders, so it isn’t a problem for me, but it is something to think about.
