Setup of Personal Buttercup Ostrich

I have been using my Filofax Personal Buttercup Ostrich as my wallet and my calendar/notes. I usually use a Pocket and an A5 but now I am using a Personal and the A5 only when I need it. My back is definitely thanking me!

I have found that because my Personal fits my calendar and notes, I only need the A5 when I am teaching groups and therefore need attendance registers and notepaper for notes for the students. I give all my individual students my old notebooks and I write notes in there for them so I don’t need paper or attendance registers.

The binder is soft and squishy yet firm and bumpy. It is the kind of binder you want to cuddle all the time!

Despite the fact that the colour is called ‘Buttercup’, it is not yellow – more a pale toasty tan.

Receipts go in the sleeve pocket to the left. The Filofax mirror is covered by the dashboard sheet, which is why it looks a bit scratched. On the back of the mirror are Muji To Do post its. In the flap pocket formed by the ring protector are plastic paperclips, a tiny calculator and some stickers My important credit cards go in the slots on the left inside cover. They are horizontal and nice and snug. At the top of the slots, below my bright green drycleaning receipt, is my travel card. I don’t have to take it out when I travel, just hold my Filofax over the reader.

In the back sleeve pockets are notes. In the zipped pockets are coins and spare keys. My usb sticks go in the flap pocket formed by the ring protector.

You can see here that I use clear rulers instead of dividers between my sections.

Behind my Filofax mirror are Muji To Do post-its. On the right hand sides I have a short typed list of things I need for work. Phone transfer and remote door opening codes for example.

Lined notepaper for more formal notes. I usually have one page for each topic – ideas for blog posts, lessons, and reminders.

  1. Gorgeous binder Janet. I saw and held an A5 Buttercup in a shop at the airport in Bermuda a few years ago and have had buyer’s remorse since then. I do have a personal red lizard with the same setup as this. I admit this post makes it tempting to go back to the red lizard, but I have 3 new we planners staring at me right now!

    1. The thing with the exotics is they will be impossible to find so you have one as an investment. They will only increase in value as they become rarer. X

  2. Janet, that binder is stunning! Now that l have one in pocket, l know what you all mean about the ostrich!

If you ever (let’s have dreams!) decide to sell it, please remember to contact me. It would be a double treat for me: having a personal ostrich AND furthermore a binder that has belonged to you!! I’d be more than honoured!

    1. It’s still my favorite – I love love love it to absolute bits! You just want to cuddle it! Ena Stein is selling her buttercup ostrich at the moment if you are interested 🙂

      1. She has sold it! Never mind l’ll keep looking for a pocket or a personal… l already have one pocket but would like so much to have an other one!

      2. I promise I will let you know if ever I see another one or if I decide to sell mine. I missed out on a gorgeous red one a year ago at a VERY reasonable price and I am still kicking myself!

  3. The Personal Ostrich is at the top of my ‘Filofaxes I want’ list. It is one of the most beautiful products the company’s ever made!
