Here today, gone tomorrow

  • white dog poop
  • bugs all over your windscreen when you drove on the open roads
  • women having to wear petticoats/slips and pantihose
  • the screeching of a dial-up connection to the internet
  • the sound of a fax machine
  • adjusting tv antennae
  • manually searching for radio stations in the car
  • ashtrays and cigarette lighters in cars
  • ashtrays in general
  • telescoping car aerials
  • videotape rewinders
  • daily wearing of high heels (mostly women, lol)
  • whitewall tyres
  • a choke in a car (do they still have them?)
  • smoking sections
  • nurses in full uniform
  • shoe shiners
  • spare tyres
  • wearing hats outdoors
  • roneo machines
  • advertising matchbooks (I used to collect them)
  • stationery in hotels
  • prank phone calls
  • high cost and low cost periods when phoning someone
  • a lock on the home telephone
  • pocket address books
  • phoning a number to find out the time or movie times
  • having to iron everything
  • writing in cursive
  • talking about ‘longhand’
  • party lines on the telephone
  • dialing the operator
  • ring around the collar (due to a combination of better hygiene and fabrics, less tie-wearing, fewer manual jobs, and air conditioning)
  • darning socks
  • the stars at night

  1. I remember cuban heels on boots (not exactly high heels since they were only 1.5″) and platform shoes with Oxford Bags. I used to wear flares that had a 28″ waist, were tight to the knees and then flared out to a 40″ bottom.
