Sartorial faux pas

It doesn’t happen often, thankfully, but I have made several faux pas during my working life

  • put my makeup on during a power failure and accidentally applied bright blue eyeliner to my eyebrows instead of brown eyebrow pencil. I used a lot of blue eyeliner at one time, à la Diana, Princess of Wales.
  • wore one brown shoe and one black shoe
  • taught for two hours with my fly down
  • wore two different pairs of boots (above)
  • bright red lipstick all over my teeth

In all the case above, no one noticed; or they noticed but did not want to tell me. I noticed these issues myself during the day.  I would always prefer to be told, so that I can remedy the problem immediately. I know that these things are hard to say to other people though, particularly if they need to blow their nose or if they have something between their teeth. I am also not sure if it is not a done thing for a woman to tell a man his fly is undone or a man to tell a woman she has a button undone in her chest area.

  1. Janet, as I often go commando I would welcome a woman telling me that my fly was undone. However, I would never dream of telling a stranger that she was revealing too much of her chest (a friend yes I would advise her that she has an extra button undone and is revealing more than usual).

  2. Seriously, I wouldn’t worry about it! I suspect that I let too much go myself, but
There are more serious issues. Enjoy!!!
    Love your writing very much.
