It’s not just me, right?

I was diagnosed with OCD in 2003, though I have definitely had it since I was a child. Three other members of my family also have OCD. I guess mine was perhaps inherited then exacerbated by the trauma I suffered when I was too young to process it. I take medicine for it and my OCD pops up only rarely these days when I am very stressed. It manifests in checking repeatedly if a door is closed, and folding and refolding clothes until they are perfect. But it flares up only once every five years or so.

One thing that I do though is always take an item from the back of the shelf. I never take the book, magazine, beauty product, item of jewellery that is at the front. I figure that the front one has been tested, poked, prodded and handled. I also check the item and if it is less than perfect, I put it back. No wonky buttons, or bent pages for me! I have a friend who does that as well so I am assuming this is perhaps more savvy shopping behaviour than anything else.

  1. I completely agree with you! I have not been diagnosed with OCD, but I do tend to pick the item at the back of the shelf and I inspect it to make sure it looks right. I also make sure that things also look balanced around me too…
