One of my favourite quotes is by T.S. Eliot, who said that all cats should have three names – an everyday name, an official name, and a third name ‘which only the cat knows and does not tell’
My cats have always kind of named themselves. Fluffy was originally named Murphy, which was a cool name. But it did not suit him. The silly name Fluffy attached itself to him somehow and never left. It described his appearance and his nature perfectly. Ziggy was Eric when I rescued him, just after David Bowie died, and it seemed a better fit than Eric. He really knew his name and would come running when you called him. Both Ziggy and Fluffy came to me as tiny kittens, but Mollie, who came to us as an adult, kept her name because it was part of her by then. Harley Davidson just named himself, and so did Catrick. For Catrick, though, he was also Ozzy, Bandit, Kid before Catrick stuck. He’s a bit tubby now so we sometimes call him Fatrick.

hahahahah; love this 🙂
My cats all knew their names and would come when called. I just adore the way cats are never owned but own their humans.
