I was at a car boot sale recently. It was in the middle of a large field and people were selling mainly tools, toys and old electronics. Only one table out of hundreds had silver jewellery. I began chatting to the seller and found that he bought estate jewellery. He had some nice pieces and his prices were good, but nothing caught my eye. He told me he had more in the car and brought out this gorgeous leather box. It was full of other jewellery but all I was interested in was the box. He thought I was very strange but sold it to me for $8. I have never seen anything like it. Apparently it is very old.
It is made of leather with brass hardware. Details are in gold leaf and the lining is purple silk. It has feet on the bottom. It concertinas up or down depending on how full it is.
I am going to try and restore it to its former glory. To that end I have been reading up and watching videos. Will keep you posted!

Definitely interesting!
That looks like a truly amazing find. I have never seen a jewellery box like that, and my aunt Joyce used to have a lot of unusual jewellery boxes. I wait to see if you manage to restore it to its original glory (or close enough to it).
I have done the outside, which looks gorgeous. But the inside is more of a challenge. It is lined in purple silk, which needs to concertina to match the outside, but I don’t have the skill.
