That’s my name, don’t wear it out

I was watching Murder She Wrote reruns with one eye and half an ear the other evening when I heard my name being mentioned repeatedly. The murder victim was named Janet Carr. And strangely, this episode did not feature Jessica Fletcher.

I am not sure whether it was hearing my name repeated for one hour, or if it is always that way, but they used both first and last names throughout. It felt really weird. I was very careful when I went out the next day in case it was an omen…

Swedes have excellent English, in part due to the fact that they do not dub foreign movies and series into Swedish. They leave the original language track and use Swedish subtitles.

  1. I can’t imagine the dissonance in hearing one’s full name out of context. Dawn is quite an unusual name in the UK, and I rarely come across it, although there was an awesome podcast with the fabulous Kathy Burke and Dawn French that I wanted to record bits of!!

  2. How incredible! It’s one thing to hear your first name but to hear your first AND last name is another thing!…
