This has to be for publicity. No one can be this stupid.

its tragic
I’m afraid to say it’s a skirt that is for sale. I utterly dislike the look of it but I don’t judge the designer’s idea.
Some people will buy it -and like the idea- and wear it.
I agree that skirt doesn’t correspond to the common representation of a skirt but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be made. As long as some people will enjoy it then it will be sold, which is the aim of any brand.
We can take the example of the IKEA bag that so many people criticized when it was released and see how many of them were eventually sold. It was a rapidly a success though no one would have bet on it.
Being innovative, different, extravagant or simply breaking the rules is not necessarily a failure when fashion or design is involved.
Yes, and no. Balenciaga are notorious for intentional stupidity. And at exorbitant prices.
Most people just roll their eyes, now. But I expect some people, with “more money than sense” do by the things. Or young fashionistas with… again, more money than sense.
IIRC Balenciaga are also who did the $$$ IKEA bag and dirty/worn “new” sneakers as well. It’s their theme.
Yes they did the ‘IKEA bag’ and the deconstructed sneakers not so long ago, which probably really increased social media engagement. This towel look is interesting after last November’s back-to-back Balenciaga scandals. First when children were used to model Balenciaga bondage items, and then the pornography court documents used as part of a promotional shoot. Demna then promised to move away from artistic provocation for provocation’s sake back to the elegant tailoring of Balenciaga’s heritage. I guess this is rather mild compared to that, and there are no lines crossed, apart from that of good taste, perhaps.
