I am not very adventurous when it comes to colour combinations in clothing. I tend to wear dark neutrals and spice things up with accessories – jewellery and scarves. The most I do is pick up a colour in a skirt pattern and match it with a shirt. I spent 12 years in a school uniform and I think I have worn ‘uniforms’ since then, although i didn’t realise it.
Sometimes, though. I see colours that are perfect together, though you would not generally think of them together.
Below is a pair of chartreuse trousers and a purple top, which I love wearing together. I would never have chosen these myself but I found them (story to follow) and am now wearing them regularly.
I also really like the combination of maroon and green seen on the Princess of Wales (source)
I have also worn a school uniform for many many years. I guess it has made me realise that colours were important for the mood and since I’ve left school I have always worn colours.
I never wear more than two colours at the same time though unless it is a shirt, skirt or dress with a colourful pattern.
As a Parisian I notice that women tend to wear more and more colours and less black and white clothes on an every day basis. It is not a bad thing but neutrals, white and black will always remain the ultimate elegance when one wants to dress up.
I find that when I’m on holiday, I tend to be a lot more colourful too. Since I am French, the “official” uniform is to wear black. Black on black, black with some other neutral colour. During the summertime, I go all out with the colours. My colours are more warmer colours, like red, brown, orange and yellow but I also like purple, although I’m not too sure it flatters me. I love the clothes you are wearing in the picture. The skirt is so beautiful! I have to say, I really loved all the clothes you showed after your South African holiday. They looked so colourful and happy!
