I bought my Limited Edition Tooled Bayswater in Oak Darwin at Heathrow Airport in 2006. It was reduced from £600/$786 to £250/$327. I had never paid so much for a handbag and I actually had to sit down afterwards because I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. After the initial shock, I never regretted buying it. I used that bag every day for more than a year and I still take it out for a spin now and then, although it is heavier than I would like to carry these days. The size and expandable design was perfect, as was the strap length.
I read an article about the 20th anniversary of the Bayswater. I almost fell over at the price now – £1259!
I have been a faithful Mulberry customer for about 25 years -clothes, planners, accessories etc- and they last forever.
But I have never been attracted to their bags as they are very heavy. I much prefer thinner and more sophisticated leathers.
Yes, Mulberry bags are really heavy. I have learned my lesson on that one in later years as my shoulder started punishing me for years of carrying weighty bags.
Every time I see a photo of one of these bags, I think of you! That was a hell of a bargain you got!
I remember sitting at Heathrow in shock that I spent so much money on a bag. Yet now people pay multiple times that for the same bag without even blinking! The only problem for me these days is that it is too heavy but I have had so much use out of it and it looks better than ever!
