  1. That’s a tulip magnolia! I had never seen those types of magnolias in the Midwest US where I grew up. The big white dinner-plate ones with thr dark glossy leaves are more common there. Once I moved to costal CA they’re everywhere here (and bloom in Jan/Feb!) where I now call them murder trees. Our last rental home had one overhanging terribly laid slate stone stairs up from the street that would become treacherous in early spring with their slimy, slippery spent blossoms. They’re still a beautiful tree!
