This is a totally new concept for me. I have experienced it of course, but did not know that it had a name. How ironic that it is named after someone who disapproved of it.
My pet hate is that shopping malls are generally not in a big square or circle. They have little alleyways off them and you have to go around shops you don’t need to get to the ones you do. Turns out it is deliberate. We must be like rats in a little maze to designers.
Oh yes, it is very much deliberate. It’s even mentioned (not the name but the concept) in this great book from 1883:

Quite eye opening in several ways.
Greetings from Prague!
In Australia, we also have a TV show with the same name and premise. It is a great show and very popular (and I’m sure free to watch as it is aired on our public broadcaster). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gruen_(TV_series)
